2002 All-Class Brown Bag Reunion
The All-Class Brown Bag Reunion is held every year on the
last Saturday of July. The 2002 reunion was on July 27.
Several members of the class, including Larry Dawes, John
Maclean, Simon Camarillo, Jan Votava Gates, Simon Camarillo
and John Weigle, showed up. The class did not have a table
(only the Class of 1951 did). All alumnus and alumni are
invited, no matter what the school's name at the time. The
event is put together by an unofficial committee from the
classes of 1943 to 1947 (approximately).
The big news of 2002 was the announcement of an Alumni
Foundation and previews of plans for a two-story
classroom building that, administrators hope, will restore
some of the feelings held for the old red brick building
that was torn down during our time at the school.
Pictures will be added to this page when they come back
from processing. Meanwhile, check out John Maclean's

This information on the news building is taken from the
first issue of the foundation's "VHS Alumni Newsletter,"
July 27, 2002:
New two-story building
planned
The old red brick building on the corner of Main and
Catalina served the school well and many people were
saddened to see it razed. Since its destruction, the
school has been without a real, defined front entrance.
Well, things are about to change. The district allocated
over $4 million to the planning and construction of a new
two-story building. Throughout the planning process, the
members of the design committee were reminded by staff
and alumni about the old brick building. In addition, the
quality and beauty of the auditorium reminded them daily
of the stature of that WPA, Art-Deco project. The final
result of the designing phase will result in a two-story
structure that captures the style and grace of the
auditorium and the old brick building.
It will be constructed facing Catalina and, once
again, will give the school a real front entrance. It
will be made in the Art Deco motif and be finished in
smooth plaster walls to resemble the auditorium. Greg
Stiles (55?)even suggested planting roses along the
pathway leading to the entrance similar to the rose
garden that graced the entrance to the old brick
building.
